Beets, sinds 1998 vaste pianist van het Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, is één van de meest succesvolle pianisten van nu.
Blues for the Date bestaat bijna geheel uit composities van zijn hand; de arrangementen zijn gemaakt door Henk Meutgeert, Rob Horsting, Jurre Haanstra en Marius Beets.
De opnames zijn gemaakt tijdens een live concert in het Bimhuis.

The recordings were made during a live concert at the Bimhuis.
