"A high level of contemporary jazz"
- Jazzism Magazine
Shai Maestro, seen as one of the most talented jazz pianists of the current times, shared the stage with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw at North Sea Jazz Festival 2024 and Big Sounds Festival 2023. The collaboration was well received by the public, press and the musicians themselves.
Since his debut in 2011, the ECM pianist Shai Maestro has been setting the bar for his generation of musicians. His music is personal, and he effortlessly combines different styles, rhythms and harmonies. Maestro also shows his signature as a composer, and was a former member of the Avishai Cohen Trio. He combines elements from different musical traditions, works with polyrhythmic patterns and irregular time signatures, but above all focuses on fun.
In combination with the rock-solid big band from the top of Europe: the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, this programme delivers musical fireworks. Shai Maestro & JOC are directed by big band titan Jim McNeely, known from the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, among others.
