The Second Time Around Releaseconcert

With The Second Time Around, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, together with jazz vocalists Fay Claassen, Anna Serierse & Esther van Hees, presents new interpretations of one of the most iconic international collaborations from the sixties: the album ‘Rita Reys meets Oliver Nelson’. The arrangements of this album were written especially for Europe’s ‘First Lady of Jazz’ and small big band line-up by the famous American saxophonist, composer and arranger Oliver Nelson (1932-1975). It became one of the Dutch highlights of modern jazz and acquired true cult status. The original manuscripts were discovered in 2023 by the Dutch Jazz Archive in the work archive of Rogier van Otterloo and the estate of Rita Reys and subsequently placed on the music stand in Utrecht and TivoliVredenburg in the concert series Dutch Jazz Heritage, a collaboration between the Netherlands Jazz Archive and the JOC. “Timeless music”, according to the big band, and reason enough to bring it to the present day with two generations of Dutch jazz vocalists.
