Het JOC heeft educatieve programma’s voor het primair onderwijs en het voortgezet onderwijs. Het hoofddoel is om de leerlingen bekend te maken met het fenomeen bigband, jazz en improvisatie. Maar ook om het podium, daar waar het optreden plaatsvindt, dichter bij de leerlingen te brengen.

Met Meet in the Middle komt de energie van bigband, drumband én brassband samen. Brassband Ritmo Entertainment en Wijktalentorkest NEXT Zuidoost duiken samen met jonge saxofonisten, trompettisten en trombonisten in de bruisende geschiedenis van de jazz en de marching bands uit New Orleans. Deze jonge muzikanten creëren een unieke muzikale mix die je niet stil kan laten staan!

Every year, passionate musicians aged between 12 and 18 can sign up for the YOUNG JOC.
To start, they dive into a weekend at Easter in a musical bootcamp full of workshops, rehearsals, jam sessions and fun. The YOUNG JOC is created during this weekend! This young-talent big band plays for a year (sometimes independently, sometimes in combination with the big JOC), on various stages in the Netherlands.

The JOC Big Band Academy is open to students of Dutch conservatoires.
Every year, there is an open call to participate, followed by a selection from which about ten candidates are chosen. For a week, participants work together with JOC orchestra members on sound and ensemble playing and everyone's part in the bigger picture. The Big Band Academy is led by a different conductor each year and always has a different theme. We conclude with a joint final concert with JOC members and students.

With this talent programme, the JOC aims to give young creators an impetus to discover new paths and bring them to the attention of venues, festivals and audiences.
The JOC Productiehuis is a collaboration with De Azijnfabriek (Den Bosch), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht) and Wilminktheater (Enschede).
The first edition of the JOC Productiehuis took place in 2025 and was led by tenor saxofonist Lucas Santana.

The JOC and the Leerorkest joined forces in 2022. Since then, the JOC musicians have been giving improvisation workshops. They also work together with the YOUNG JOC towards a joint performance every year. This involves various orchestras from the Music Centre Zuidoost, such as District Talent Orchestras and the Leerorkest.
We are aiming to eventually establish a real Leer-jazz orchestra!
