Het Concertgebouw - Amsterdam
During the Dutch Jazz Heritage series, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw will put the spotlight on legendary (Dutch) jazz moments and jazz artists, in collaboration with the Dutch Jazz Archive. In this concert, the orchestra will pay tribute to one of the greatest American jazz drummers: Art Blakey. Blakey is one of the inventors of the bebop drumming style. In November 1959, he and his ‘Jazz Messengers’ performed in the Concertgebouw, with trumpeter Lee Morgan and tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter in his band.
