Jazz Influencers ft. Rita Payés & Maripepa Contreras
Without a new generation, no new jazz. That's why the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw is giving young "Jazz Influencers" opportunity to take the stage. This concert features two musicians with Spanish roots as guest soloists: singer and trombonist Rita Payés and Maripepa Contreras, one of the few jazz oboists in the world.
Singer and trombonist Rita Payés is known for her intimate voice, full of emotional depth. Her music combines jazz, bossa nova, and Mediterranean folk traditions. She has collaborated with artists such as Andrea Motis, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, and Jon Batiste and has previously performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and NPR's Tiny Desk Concert.
Maripepa Contreras is one of the very few jazz oboists in the world. She is definitely "something different" in the best possible way: Spanish roots, classically trained, with a jazz background and a passion for Brazilian music. She previously won an award with her Maripepa Contreras Quintet from DownBeat Magazine.
