Dutch Jazz Heritage: Sinatra & Basie ft. Ruben Hein
Without a doubt, Frank Sinatra is the greatest jazz singer and crooner of the 20th century. Generations grew up with classics such as Fly Me To The Moon, I Get A Kick Out Of You and New York, New York. Frank Sinatra enjoyed playing with Count Basie and his Orchestra, and did so frequently. These became the creative highlights of his career and defined his recognizable sound. The singer, who became a legend during his lifetime, performed no less than five times on the stage of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw therefore brings an ultimate big band ode to these special Dutch concerts. With soloist Ruben Hein in the lead role, you can expect a good dose of swing, charisma and - of course - the well-known hits. It might as well be swing!
Under the direction of Johan Plomp, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, together with the Dutch Jazz Archive, reconstructs the legendary performances and the atmosphere of 60 years ago when both American jazz greats played in the Netherlands for the first time. You will hear the fascinating historical story using original photos and film footage, and with contemporary interpretations, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and Ruben Hein will bring the jazz of the past to the present.
