During the Jazz & Freedom festival in collaboration with NiNsee (National Institute for the Dutch Slavery History and Heritage) & DeLaMar, we commemorate and celebrate the abolition of slavery as part of the Year of Remembrance. We put the diverse and rich music cultures of Curaçao and Suriname in the spotlight together with an all-star line-up of artists who connect tradition and present time in innovative ways.
Please check our calender for this years line-up!
Jazz is inextricably linked to freedom. Freedom from oppression but also freedom of expression, to innovate and to improvise. No other type of music has been as important for the emancipation of African-Americans as jazz. With the new Jazz & Freedom festival, we zoom in on music as part of a constantly ongoing struggle for freedom and equality and explore the genesis of jazz.
